The word suit has multiple meanings depending on the context. It can refer to a set of clothes consisting of a jacket and trousers or a skirt of the same fabric and color. It can also refer to a legal action or lawsuit. Another use of it is in terms of playing cards. In playing cards, a suit is one of the categories into which the cards of a deck are divided. Most often, each card bears one of several pips (symbols) showing to which suit it belongs; the suit may alternatively or additionally be indicated by the color printed on the card. The four suits in a standard deck of playing cards are spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs.
